How to Keep My Greasetrap Clean?

A well maintained grease trap will trap fats, oil and grease as well as food particles, greatly reducing the discharge of these items into the sewer system and preventing blockages from occurring. This is why we specify that your grease trap must be cleaned out at regular intervals.

The following tips will assist you to reduce the risk of sewer blockages at your property and maximise the performance of your grease trap:

Scrape left over food from plates, pots, pans and cooking utensils and place in to the relevant collection bin.

After you have scraped the leftovers off dry wipe those items to remove excess grease before washing. You can always use a pre-rinse tap to speed up the washing process.

Use only the amount of cooking oils and fats that you need.

Collect and store all used cooking oils and fats for collection by recycling companies - DON'T pour them down the drains. Why not filter your own oil and save yourself up to 50% on your oil cost?

For kitchens with floor gully systems that flow in to a grease trap - sweep the floors first to avoid waste being washed in to the grease trap and try and mop with kitchen degreasers instead of hosing down whenever practical. You can also use enzyme bricks to place in a floor gully.

Regularly clean sink strainers and standpipes to prevent food particles collecting in your grease trap.

Consider using a dosing fluid to not only keep your grease trap cleaner but to lessen the amount of manual cleaning.
